What Monthly does

Monthly reads the photos on your iPhone and, every week, suggests eight to keep. On the 28th of each month the month’s keeps become a proof of a 7.5-inch square softcover book. With a subscription, that book is printed by our print partner, Lulu, and posted to you. Without one, you can still keep any month as a free PDF album.

Monthly is for adults. You need an iPhone and a Sign in with Apple account to order books, and books ship only to addresses in the United States.

Your photos

Your photos stay yours. Choosing happens on your iPhone; we receive a book’s photos only when it is sent to print, or when you add your keeps to another parent’s book, as the privacy policy explains. You let us and Lulu use those files only to make, print and deliver your books.

Only put photos in a book that you have the right to print. Lulu and we may refuse to print a book that is illegal or infringes someone else’s rights; if that happens, we tell you and refund what you paid for it.

The subscription

• Monthly costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year, in US dollars. Either plan includes one printed book a month, with standard shipping to your address.
• You pay through Stripe, inside the app. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. The price you pay is the one shown before you subscribe; if it ever changes, we tell you before your next renewal and you can cancel first.
• Cancel any time in Settings → Manage subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; a book you have already paid for still prints, and an annual plan keeps its remaining months until the year ends. Except as described under “Skipping a month” and “Reprints”, payments are not refunded, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
• Extra copies cost $7.99 each and a copy posted to another US address costs $11.98. They are charged to your card when the book is sent to print, and refunded if the printer can’t take the job. If you ask for a copy for someone every month, it is charged each month until you turn it off.

Your book each month

• From the 28th you can page through the proof, change anything you like and approve it. If you do nothing, it prints on the 3rd of the next month as it stands.
• Please look through the proof: the book is printed exactly as it shows. Monthly marks photos that may print soft (“Low resolution”), but the choice of photos, captions and cover is yours.
• Books are made to order. Delivery dates are estimates from the printer and the carrier, not promises. Settings → Orders shows each book’s progress and, once it has shipped, its tracking.

Skipping a month

You can skip a month from its proof before it prints. We refund that month’s share of your subscription (all of a monthly payment, a twelfth of an annual one) to your card, and nothing prints. “Print it after all” charges it again. A month with too few photos to fill a book carries its credit to a later month instead.

Reprints

If a book arrives damaged or misprinted, tell us within 30 days of it shipping (Settings → Orders → Damaged or misprinted?) and we send one new copy to your address at our cost. A reprint uses the same files, so it can’t change the photos you approved.

Using Monthly fairly

Please don’t misuse Monthly: no attempts to break, overload or get around its limits or security, no automated access to our servers outside the app, and no reselling books printed through it. We may close an account that does these things, and refund any book it has paid for and not received.

Changes and availability

We work to keep Monthly running and improving, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we may change or retire features. If we ever stop offering Monthly, we tell you in advance, print or refund every month you have paid for, and your photos stay on your phone.

Liability

Monthly is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law, or our liability where it cannot be excluded.

The App Store

If you got Monthly from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. These terms are between you and us, not Apple: Apple is not responsible for Monthly, its books or its support, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of Morocco. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of its mandatory consumer law and can bring a claim in its courts.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app when the change matters. If you keep using Monthly after a change, the new terms apply.
